Competition trophies - part of our history
Our competition trophies represent some of our history, often having been donated by people closely associated with the Club. For those who have not been around since our early years, here are a few notes about names - in alphabetical order - to the best of our recollections!
- Arthur Green Shield - Arthur Green was a member of the Club from its second meeting in 1953 until he died in the late 1990s. He was our honorary treasurer for many years, and also served as Chairman for a time in the early 1970s. After 40 years of membership he was made an honorary member.
- Barclays Bank Shield - donated by Barclays Bank when one of our members worked in the Sevenoaks Branch
- Bill Barton Shield - Bill Barton was a member from the late 1970s until his death in the 1980s. Although not enjoying the best of health he was very active and as well as taking full part in the Club he served as a committee member for a time. He enjoyed creating audio visual slide shows which he presented at various clubs in the area, especially those catering for disabled people. The Club bought the trophy in his memory.
- County Camera Cup - County Cameras was a retail photographic shop in Sevenoaks Town for many years. When they closed, its premises in the High Street were taken over by Fielders (now closed as well, see below).
- Derek Medhurst Cup - Derek Medhurst has been a member since 1969 and has carried out most official roles in his time with the Club. He donated the trophy 'because it felt like a good idea at the time'!
- Ernest Fielder Shield - Fielder's Photographic was a long standing retail photographic business in Sevenoaks, initially at Lower St John's Hill and then in the town. It has now closed. Ernest Fielder himself was a well known and respected photographer in Kent in the middle of the 20th century.
- Herbert Inglin Shield - one of our most recent trophies, Herbert Inglin was Club Chairman for 10 years until 2009 and guided it through the period of change into the "digital era".
- George Elliott Cup - George Elliott was a wholesale/professional photographic business based in Westerham in the 1980s/1990s.
- Kemsing Cup - donated by a group of our members living in Kemsing, including Edward and Marion Coady and Pat and George Jones.
- Keyhole Challenge Cup - donated in 2008 by our member Kate Radcliffe's business.
- St Julian's Cup - donated by our 1980's-1990s member Ray Hadlow, who ran his graphics business at St Julian's in Sevenoaks.
- Serf Colour Cup - Serf Colour was a local graphics printing business who donated a trophy in the 1980s.
- Sevenoaks Challenge Bowl - our oldest trophy, dating at least back to the 1960s. Little is known about its origins.
- Starter Cup - presented by the Club to the new member doing best in all competitions. New members eligible for this award are those in their first two years of membership.
- White's Joinery Cup - Paul White was a member in the 1980s to 1990's including serving as Vice Chairman and Chairman. He ran his own joinery business in the town, and donated this trophy to the Club.
